Vinod Mehra was a very famous and prominent actor in Bollywood industry who was born in a Punjabi family on February 13th, 1945 at Amritsar in Punjab. He married three times in his life with Meena Broca, Bindiya Goswami and Kiran. His first marriage was an arranged marriage which was arranged by his mother with Meena Broca. But the marriage was not successful and later he married Bindiya Goswami while still married with Meena. Meena left him and went back to her parents house. But also his second marriage was not successful and she soon married director J. P. Dutta. Later he married third time, with Kiran and that marriage lasts till his death. Vinod has a daughter named Soniya and a son named Rohan. He is also called to be married with superstar Rekha but in 2004, in an interview Rekha denied and called him her well wisher.

Vinod Mehra was a talented person from his childhood. He started his filming career as a child artist in the year 1958, with the movie ‘Raagni‘ where he played the younger version of the character played by famous Kishore Kumar. Later he played several child characters in various movies in late 1950s and 1960s. His adult film career was started in the year 1971 when he first appeared in the movie ‘Parday Ke Peechhay’ opposite actress Yogeeta Bali who was also a debutant. Later he starred in Elaan, Ek Thi Rita, Amar Prem and Lal Patthar which were hits. He has appeared in over hundred movies in his career of two decades i.e. 1970s - 1980s. In begining of his career, he starred as a leading man but later he switched to supporting roles such as brother, friend, father, police inspetor etc. He starred in several multi-starrer movies.

He starred with many famous actors such as Amitabh Bachchan, Sanjeev Kumar, Rajesh Khanna, Dharmendra etc and his frequent female co-stars included Rekha,Mausami Chetterjee,Yogita Bali,Shabana Azmi and Bindiya Goswami. He has appeared in several hit movies such as Amar Prem, Nagin, Jaani Dushman, Khud-Daar etc. He starred in superhit movie ‘Anurodh‘ in 1979 for which he received Filmfare Nominations as Best Supporting Actor. Also for the movies like Amardeep in 1979 and Bemisal in 1982, he received Filmfare Nominations as Best Supporting Actor. In his last years, he turned into a producer and director with the film ‘Gurudev‘. But the movie was not completed on time due to his sudden death of a heart attack on October 30th, 1990. He was forty five years of age at that time. Some of his directed movies like Gurudev, Insaniyat and Aurat Aurat Aurat were released after his death, in 1993, 1994 and 1996 respectively.
