Songs of Waheeda Rehman
One of the most beautiful and talented actress of hindi film industry named Waheeda Rehman was born on May 14th, 1936 at Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh. Her family was a traditional Muslim family where she was born and her father was a District Magistrate. He was posted all over the South but settled in Vijayawada. It was there where she was brought up and had her schooling. But she got a big blow when her father passes away when she was just twelve years of age. She had always wanted to become a doctor but due to circumstances and illness and therefore she abandoned this goal. She was trained in Bharatnatyam and with the support of her parents she was first seen on the silver screen in 1955 with the movie titled ‘Jaisimha’ which was a Telugu movie. The movie was followed by another movie ‘Rojulu Maraayi’ in the same year. She got married in 1974 on 27th April with Kanwaljeet Singh and has two children named Sohail and Kashvi.
Later on she was discovered by famous actor and director named Guru Dutt. He brought her to Bombay where she played the role of a vamp in his production movie titled ‘C.I.D.’ in 1956. The movie was directed by Raj Khosla. The movie C.I.D. became a superhit and she was critically acclaimed for her performance in the movie. But her pleasure did not last too long as she lost her mother few years after joining the Hindi film industry. In 1957, she got to play the leading role in ‘Pyaasa’. This role was offered by Guru Dutt. By the time she got romantically involved with Guru Dutt. Later in 1959 they next worked together in ‘Kaagaz Ke Phool’. The movie depicted the story of a successful director’s decline after he falls for his leading lady. The relationship between both of them break due to his existing marriage and her film successes with other directors.
Although they continued working together in 1960s such as ‘Chaudhvin Ka Chand‘ (1960) and ‘Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam’ (1962). But she was shot to fame with the movie ‘Guide’ in 1965 where she appeared with Dev Anand. The movie went to become a blockbuster. She also won the Filmfare Best Actress Award for her role in this movie. Also in the movie ‘Neel Kamal’ in 1968 she won Filmfare Best Actress Award. She last appeared in 1991 in ‘Lamhe’ and after that she took twelve years rest from the industry and re-appeared in 2002 with the movie ‘Om Jai Jagadish’ where she played elderly mother role. In between twelve years, her husband died following a prolonged illness on November 21st, 2000. Later in 2000s she appeared in Water (2005), Rang De Basanti (2006) and Delhi 6 (2009) which were all critically acclaimed.
