Songs of Zeenat Aman


A very famous Bollywood actress named Zeenat Aman was born on November 19th, 1951 in India. She was a famous actress during 1970s and 1980s. She was born to a muslim family of Amanullah Khan and a Hindu mother. Her father was one of the writers for the blockbuster movies, Mughal-e-Azam and Pakeezah who died when Zeenat was just thirteen years of age. After that she was taken to Germany by her mother but there she was unhappy. She did her schooling from a Catholic school with a European influence where she befriends with a Jewish. She returned to India at the age of eighteen and completed her graduation from St. Xavier’s College, Mumbai. Later she moved to Los Angeles for further studies. She has worked as a journalist and later moved to modelling and went on to win the Miss Asia Pacific in 1970. She married Mazhar Khan in 1985 and has two sons, Azaan and Zahaan.

Zeenat’s first performance was seen in the movie Hulchul in 1971 where she got a small role. But her appearance on the screen was not notified by anyone. Later in the same year she once again appeared in ‘Hungama’ in which legendary Kishore Kumar was also appearing. But again this time she was not notified. Later in 1972, she got her attractive role in the movie ‘Hare Rama Hare Krishna‘. There she got the second lead role. This role was first given to Zaheeda who refused as she wanted the lead role in the movie. Zeenat was opted at the last time. In the movie she appeared in the song “Dum Maro Dum” which became very famous song and she was shot to fame. She earned a Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award and BFJA Award for Best Actress. Later her pairing alongwith Dev Anand was seen in several movies like Heera Panna (1973), Ishq Ishq Ishq (1974), Prem Shastra (1974), Warrant (1975) etc.

Her role in the movie ‘Yaadon Ki Baaraat‘ in 1973 was very much liked by audiance. In later part of her career she found success with other banners such as B. R. Chopra, Nasir Hussain, Shakti Samanta, Manoj Kumar and Manmohan Desai. She starred in 1978 movie ‘Satyam Shivam Sundaram‘ in which she gave many attractive scenes for which she was criticized but also earned a Filmfare nomination as Best Actress for this film. After that she struggled to get success. She once again bounced back with the movie ‘Don’. She was applauded for her performance in the movie Insaaf Ka Tarazu in 1980 in which she played the role of a rape victim. She also received a Filmfare Best Actress nomination for this movie. This film was followed by success in the love triangle Qurbani, Ali Baba aur 40 Chor, Dostana (1980) and Lawaaris (1981).
