Sulakshana Pandit is a famous playback singer as well as actress in the Bollywood. She is gifted with acting and singing qualities which she showed in several movies in the industry. Sulakshana comes from a musically-inclined family. She has three siblings. Her younger sister named Vijayeta Pandit is a former actress who had started her career in 1981 superhit movie ‘Love Story’. Also she has two brothers named Jatin Pandit and Lalit Pandit who are still popularly known as duo Jatin-Lalit. Sulakshana has sung several songs in her career for several movies. She also acted in the same movies in which she has lend her voice. Sulakshana had a mid-level career as heroine in the 1970s and early 1980s. In that period of time, she got the opportunity to sing with legends of singing such as Lata Mangeshkar, Mohammed Rafi, Mukesh and Manna Dey.

Sulakshana Pandit was mainly casted opposite superstar actor, Jeetendra such as Apnapan in the year 1977. Also she sang for several other actresses. Not only this, she has also won the Filmfare Best Female Playback Award in the year 1975 for singing the song “Tu Hi Saagar Hai Tu Hi Kinara” in the movie ‘Sankalp‘. That song was also became superhit and got the huge response from the audiance. She was nominated for best female playback singer in filmfare awards for the song “Bandhi Re Kahe Preet” in the movie ‘Sankoch’ which was directed in 1976. Another frequent star which was casted opposite her was Sanjeev Kumar. Apart from him she has also worked with many other actors such as Shammi Kapoor, Amitabh Bachchan, Rajesh Khanna, Vinod Khanna, Rishi Kapoor, Raj Babbar and Rakesh Roshan.

Later she has recorded a song “Mujhe Pyar Mein Khat” for the film Hera Pheri in 1975. But unfortunately the song was rejected by the music company and re-recorded by Asha Bhosle. But fortunately, she was selected as the leading lady for the same film which also starred Amitabh Bachchan and Vinod Khanna and that song was picturised on her. In the year 1980, she once again came up with the song “Ho Raama Paani Bharan Jaaoon To Nazar Lag Jaaye” in the movie ‘Payal Ki Jhankar‘ which became superhit. She was also appreciated for her performance. Her another song “Jeevan Ki Jyot Na Bujha Hay Shankar” from the movie ‘Premikaa’ got mix reviews. Some of her movies in which she has given her voice are Khandaan, Sparsh, Sankoch, Jazbaat, Ahista Ahista etc. She has never married in her life and experianced hard times till Jeetendra came to help her.
