A famous director, Gulzar directed movie ‘Angoor‘ was released under the banner of A.R. Movies in 1982. The movie is full of romance and comedy and the lead roles in the movie were played by Sanjeev Kumar, Moushumi Chatterjee and Deepti Naval whereas the supporting roles were played by Deven Verma, Aruna Irani, Padma Chavan, Shammi, Yunus Parvez, C.S. Dubey, T.P. Jain, Ram Mohan, Kamaldeep, Utpal Dutt, Bhushan Banmali, Ashish Chatterji, Trilok Kapoor etc. The movie was produced by Jai Singh whereas the songs of the movie were rendered by Asha Bhosle and Sapan Chakraborty. The music of the movie was given by famous music director named Rahul Dev Burman and the screenplay and dialogues were given by Gulzar. The movie is based on a very famous English play titled ‘Comedy Of Errors’ which was written by William Shakespeare. The movie was a success at the box office.

The movie is based on two identical persons and when their places are changed, then starts a series of misunderstandings which later results in the comedy. In the begining of the movie, a guy named Ashok Raj Tilak (Sanjeev Kumar) is living a very peaceful life in Dinkapur. There he lives with his widowed mother (Shammi) and a loyal servant named Bahadur (Deven Verma). Later one day he has to go to another town for doing some business. The business is to buy several acres of grape-bearing trees. Also his servant, Bahadur comes with him. Soon he reaches there but is shocked to know that everyone knows him although this is his first trip to this town. Not only him, his servant Bahadur is also known to them very well. The Ticket Checker at the Railway Station, the taxi-driver (Ram Mohan), the Hotel Manager, local Police Inspector Sinha (Trilok Kapoor), a Jeweler named Chhedilal (C.S. Dubey) and his assistant Mansoor (Yunus Parvez) know both of them. But on top of everybody, a woman named Sudha (Moushumi Chatterjee) claims to be his wife.

Also another woman named Tanu (Deepti Naval) claims that she is his sister-in-law. Not only this, a woman named Prema (Aruna Irani) also identifies Ashok and Bahadur as their mistress and wife respectively. Then the story revolves around a necklace which Sudha has ordered to her husband to prepare for her. Between all this, both Ashok and Bahadur are also bring to the home of Sudha where they are treated as normally. This is it for both of them and then they decide to leave the town but to their shock, they are not supposed to do that as the Police arrest them for the theft of the diamond necklace. Later everyone comes to know that Ashok and Bahadur have look alike and everyone including Sudha misunderstand them.
