Rajiv Mehra directed movie ‘Chamatkar‘ was released under the banner of Eagle Films on July 8th, 1992. The movie is full of fantasy drama and the lead roles in the movie were played by Naseeruddin Shah, Shahrukh Khan, Urmila Matondkar and Tinnu Anand whereas the supporting roles were played by Malvika Tiwari, Shammi Kapoor, Deven Verma, Anjana Mumtaz, Anjan Srivastav, Rakesh Bedi, Johnny Lever, Guddi Maruti, Arun Bakshi, Avinash Kharshikar, Ashutosh Gowariker etc. The movie was produced by Parvesh C. Mehra whereas the superhit songs of the movie were rendered by some very famous names - Nandu Bhende, Asha Bhosle, Udit Narayan, Poornima, Kumar Sanu and Sukhwinder Singh. The music of the movie was given by famous music director Anu Malik whereas the story and dialogues were written by Shaukat Baig and Lilliput respectively. Screenplay was given by Rajiv Mehra. The movie went on to do good business at the box office.

The movie is based on a series of comedy as well as magical powers of a ghost. In the begining of the movie, a young and honest guy named Sunder Srivastava (Shahrukh Khan) lives in a village with his half acre of land. He wants to open a school on his property as it was his father’s last wish. He is a graduate by qualification but has no money to execute his plans. One day he is approached by his friend named Prem (Avinash Kharshikar) who is a conman. He asks Sunder to mortgage his land to the village Zamindar (landlord) and fly to Dubai which he does. Later Sunder arrives Bombay to meet Prem but is shocked to know that he is a conman. Also his luggage and money has been robbed and then he goes into an old Christian cemetery. There he sits on an old grave and strikes the tombstone to release his frustration. But in next moment he apologises to the deceased. To his shock, he gets a reply from that which scared him.

Therefore, Sunder starts reading ‘Hanuman Chalisa’ and then he witnesses a man coming out of the grave. The ghost introduces himself as Amar Kumar (Naseeruddin Shah) who was also known as Marco. He tells him that he gets killed twenty years before by Kunta (Tinnu Anand). He also let him know that he was a notorious Crime Don and was in love with Savitri (Malvika Tiwari). He had decided to give up from crime but his protege, Kunta shooted him just after the marriage. Then Marco asks Sunder to help himself and in return he will arrange the place to live for Sunder. Later Marco helps him to get a job in a college which is run by his father-in-law, Mr. Kaul (Shammi Kapoor). There Sunder meets Mala Kumar (Urmila Matondkar) who is daughter of Marco. Both falls in love with each other. Here Kunta tries to capture the playing ground of college campus. Later in a cricket match Marco helps Sunder’s team after seeing the cheatings of opposite teams.
