Jackie Shroff was born as Jaikishen Kakubhai Shroff on 1 February 1960 in Mumbai. Jaikishen was born in the Gujrati speaking Shroff family. His dad’s name is Kakubhai, his brother’s is Hemant, and they live in Bandra, Mumbai in a bungalow named ‘Le Pepeyon”. Jackie Shroff married his longtime girlfriend Ayesha Dutt, on June 5, 1987. Ayesha is also a producer and both husband and wife run a film company named as Jackie Shroff Entertainment Limited. They have two children, son Jai Hemant Shroff and daughter Krishna Shroff. His son has recently graduated high school, while his daughter still attends the American School of Bombay. A vegetarian, Jaikishen made his Bollywood debut in a bit role as a villain in the 1973 hit Heera Panna which starred Dev Anand as the lead actor. He then went on to act in another Dev Anand starrer film, Swami Dada.

It was Subhash Ghai, who signed him up for the 1983 hit Hero that catapulted this handsome young man to stardom, followed by yet another hit Andar Bahar with Anil Kapoor as his co-star. Thus, Jaikishen became the new Bollywood legend Jackie Shroff. Since then there has been no looking back, as he went on to star in close to 150 movies with a career that spanned from 1973 onwards. Since 2000, or there about he has appeared in a variety of character roles, villain, comedian, and even as a ghost in Bhoot Uncle. Soon After Swami Dada, his subsequent movie was Hero directed by Subhash Ghai in which Jackie played the lead actor opposite to the actress and former Miss India Meenakshi Sheshadri. This film was a huge hit and made him a star over night. He was often paired with another leading actor Anil Kapoor during the 1980s in films such as Yudh( 1985 ), Karma( 1986 ), Ram Lakhan( 1989 ) and Parinda( 1989 ) which were all huge box office successes. Jackie did gain recognition from audiences as well as critics for his performances.

Some of his famous leading roles came in Angaar( 1992 ) where he plays a youth, frustrated with crime and corruption, who takes on a violent campaign against the system and Gardish( 1993 ) where his portrayal of a common man taking on the criminal elements in society is considered his best work. His other memorable roles include Ravi Mathur, one of the three protagonists who take on a crime lord in Tridev( 1989 ), ‘Ram Sinha’ a cop in Khalnayak( 1993 ), the freedom fighter ‘Shubhankar’ in 1942: A Love Story( 1994 ), ‘Raj Kamal’ a famous actor in Rangeela( 1995 ), and ‘Chunnilal’ in the superhit film Devdas( 2002 ). He was also performed in the Bengali film Antar Mahal( 2005 ). In 1996, he had a hit Agni Sakshi with Manisha Koirala and Nana Patekar which was a remake Sleeping With The Enemy. In the original film Kevin Anderson played a similar role to him. In this film he marries Manisha Koirala who is abused by her mentally husband Nana Patekar. In 2006, he acted in his first Kannada movie Care Of Footpath directed by the youngest film director in the world Master Kishan. The film received rave reviews and went on to be screened at various International film festivals. In 2006, he had supporting roles in the hit comedy films like Apna Sapna Money Money and Bhagam Bhag. Then, he appeared in a multi starrer action comedy Fool N Final in 2007. Next year, he became the role-model and icon for the St. Bonaventure ‘Asian Student’s in Action’ organization. He won the Filmfare Best Actor Award for his performance in Parinda in 1990. As a producer he produces Grahan in 2001 and Jis Desh Mein Ganga Rehta Hai in 2000.
