Top songs of Nanda
A very famous and prominent actress in Bollywood named Nanda was born on January 8th, 1939 at Mumbai in Maharashtra. She was born to the family of Vinayak Damodar Karnataki, popularly known as Master Vinayak. He was a famous Marathi actor-director in the 1930s and 1940s. He died when Nanda was just a child and later the family faced hard times. All the responsibility came on her and she became a child artiste and helped out her family by working in films like Jaggu in the early 1950s. She has never gone to school but was tutored at home by renowned school-teacher and Bombay Scouts Commissioner, Gokuldas V. Makhi. Also she has never married. She was one of the close friends of another famous actress Waheeda Rehman. Later she became engaged to director Manmohan Desai in 1992 when Waheeda Rehman interferes in her life. But it broke in 1994 when he comitted suicide.
Nanda started her acting career in the year 1956 with the movie ‘Toofan Aur Diya‘ which was directed by Prabhat Kumar. She was given role in the movie by her paternal uncle named V. Shantaram. Later she starred in another movie titled ‘Ram Luxman‘ in 1957. In the same year, she starred in a hit movie, ‘Bhabhi’ for which she earned her first Filmfare nomination as Best Supporting Actress. Also she played as sister of Dev Anand in the movie Kala Bazaar and also did small roles in big films like ‘Dhool Ka Phool‘. She was shot to fame with the movie ‘Chhoti Bahen’ in the year 1959 in which she played the lead role. The movie was a superhit and also she was appreciated for her superb performance. From there, she started to play lead roles in movies such as Kanoon (1960) and Hum Dono (1961). Movie, Kanoon was very unusual back then, because it had no songs.
She gave another hit performance in the movie Anchal in 1960 and for that, she also won the Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award. Later she started to star with newcomer actor, Shashi Kapoor but their pair was not so successful in starting. But they later had a super hit with ‘Jab Jab Phool Khile‘ in 1965. In the same year, she once again appeared in another hit movie ‘Gumnaam‘. This helped her in raising her fame to the top heroines. Also she started to play leading roles with another newcomer, Rajesh Khanna in the movie ‘Ittefaq’ in 1969. The movie was a suspence thriller and she received a Filmfare nomination as Best Actress. Also she signed two another hit movies titled The Train (1969) and Joroo Ka Ghulam (1972). She appeared in Shor (1972), Chhalia (1973) and Naya Nasha (1974) and then stopped appearing in films. Later she came back on the screen in Ahista Ahista (1981).
